Scrappy snow day

Hi all!  Buried in snow yet?  Yep, we've got a bunch--about 10 inches-- so far.  Not sure when it will stop, but I have a bunch of things lined up to do, including making brownies.  Hey, I've got to keep my spirits up!

I just have one thing to show today for Scrappy Saturday:

These are about half of the blue hexies that I've basted from the many scraps that I've been cutting.  These are big, 2 inches on each side. And no, I did not cut hexagons!  I just had squares (and to be honest, I got a little lazy and some of these are just pieces of fabric in no shape at all) and folded them around the paper hexies.  Here's how they look on the back:

I'll trim the seam allowances as I stitch them together.  The seam allowances won't be perfect, but cutting hexie shapes takes way more time than trimming away the seam allowances.

So, I'm not really sure what to do with these.  Right now I think I might make a block of each color and then join them all together at the end.  I don't think I want another month-to month project, and I'm not sure that I want blocks of hexies.  Maybe I'll just mix them together and stitch them together randomly.  I can't decide.  Anyone have an opinion?

Okay, I just did the math and that's a lot of hexies.  Probably breaking it up into blocks is the best idea, because otherwise I'm likely to be left with 500 loose hexies and no quilt, and that would be very sad!

Hope everyone is warm and dry this weekend.  Stay in and sew!  The snow has a way of melting eventually if you just leave it alone. . .

Guess I'll stay in!

Staying in and sewing hexies sounds like a great way to pass the time until all that snow melts.

Just you stay inside and keep on sewing your beautiful hexies.

I love your hexies! Did you sneak a green one in there, or is that just the camera? Anyway, looks like you'll be buried in snow AND hexies if you don't sew them into a block month to month. Have a lovely, cozy weekend.

I laughed when you commented about using pieces in "no shape", as I suspect that would become me at some point. I love those blue hexies on that field of white-ish batting. Just like that, but boy would that be a lot of hexies. Trust you'll melt off before you make that many hexies.

One of our local quilt makers makes hexies in all sizes as her portable project. She then appliqués them onto tote bags, sweatshirts, etc. to make small gifts and such. She vows she has NO intention of turning them into a quilt. (We missed the worst of the snow - got the cold and wind plus maybe 2" of whiteness)

Well, you could always make them in rows instead of blocks. That's something I've thought of doing, for a take-along project. You know, to go with my 20 other take-along projects. (For someone who rarely goes anywhere, I certainly have a lot of take-along projects...)
I hope your snow melts in a timely fashion!

That is a lot of snow. So far we haven't had much at all - just a very light dusting. Those hexies are really pretty.

We didn't get HALF that much snow and I'm staying in to sew, too!!

I like all the blues you've collected here. My hexie project is now getting towards it's third birthday, so I guess that would be long term too. I sew them together in sevens (six of the same colour around a contrasting colour in the middle) as I go. They tend to follow the colour of the month using some of the scraps that are left.

Your hexies in all the different blues are so pretty! Have you seen what Modern Handcraft does with her hexies? She doesn't sew them together, but instead uses fabric glue to attach them to a background and then quilts over them through their angles. They are gorgeous that way!

I love hexies but I made one small hexie quilt and that was enough for me! I'll be wondering what you decide since I have no good suggestions!

That is a clever way to do the hexies, saves time. How will you decide when you have enough? The block might be a good idea. We have no new snow here, but my daughter has to fly to Baltimore tomorrow night. Praying for a safe trip.

Beautiful hexies - love the clear, crisp blues! Hope the blizzard is just an excuse to stay home, stay warm and sew and no aggravating problems like power failure.

If I had snow like that, I would be staying inside too. Love your hexies. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
