Bold choices for the Synergy Blog Hop

Hi everyone! How has your week been? I've had a very busy, action-packed week. Okay, the action was really just a bunch of grading and reading and stuff, but it felt like action in my head. I also managed to sneak in a few stitches and finish up something pretty and bold and not really like my usual at all. I hope you are in the mood for some color today, because I have something really colorful to show off.

Are you ready? Here she is:

I told you it was not my usual thing at all! This is a quilt top made for my friend Preeti's Synergy Blog Hop. If you recall, back in January, Preeti showed off her Synergy quilt, which she published in Make Modern magazine. Well, Synergy is now a stand alone pattern, and you can get it in her Etsy shop right HERE. Bonus-- it is 25% off until April 27th!

When Preeti asked me to join the blog hop, I thought I would make a rainbow quilt, but then I was looking at her blog post about Synergy and I saw her quilt in teals with a yellow background. What if I didn't make a rainbow quilt, but used a bold print as a background instead? As you can see, it was a short hop to the lively pink print, with blues and golds to complement the flowers and leaves in the print.

This quilt was super-easy to make and went really fast. The pattern is easy to understand, and everything is really well explained. I followed the pattern exactly-- which you know I never do, but I needed to do it to test the pattern-- and everything came together really quickly. Even I could not mess it up. The great color graphics helped. Really, the hardest part for me was choosing the colors from my scrap stash. Even the cutting went really fast.

I actually considered making this quilt in just two colors, the pink and a pale green. I was making this for the blog hop, though, so I abandoned that idea, but there isn't a colorway that wouldn't look good in the pattern. Imagine it in green and white, or gray and yellow, or maybe red, white, and blue . . .

So there is my take on the Synergy pattern! I would absolutely make this quilt again, and I'm not really "modern." Bigger pieces, easy piecing, minimal seam matching, and it looks great in any color. What's not to love about it?

As I said above, this is a blog hop, and here is the schedule for the hop:

Mari of Academic Quilter - Thursday, April 21, 2022-- YOU ARE HERE!
Alycia of Alycia Quilts - Friday, April 22, 2022
Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts - Saturday, April 23, 2022
Bonnie of Institches with Bonnie - Sunday, April 24, 2022
Roseanne of Home Sewn By Us - Monday, April 25, 2022

Since this is a hop for the pattern release, you have the opportunity to win a Synergy pattern of your very own. Leave a comment on this post, and just for fun, let us all know what colors you might use for the quilt. Pop over to Preeti's post today if you need some more inspiration, and be sure to visit everyone in the hop, because we all have a pattern to give away. I'll pull the winner using a random number magic thingy on Tuesday, April 26th. IMPORTANT: If you are no-reply, remember to leave your email address so that I have a way to contact you!

This giveaway is now closed! Congratulations to Rochelle, and thanks to all for reading along!

Of course, if you just can't wait, hop over to Preeti's shop to get the pattern and get started on a fabulous quilt of your own right away!

Thanks for stopping by, and everyone have a grand weekend!

Great colour choices, the red background is beautiful.

Talk about taking a concept and turning it around completely. With your bold choices the background has become the focus and the blocks play second fiddle - creating a brand new harmony!!!

I have a pretty package or two of fabric not used yet of bright colors that is what I would use with a yardage of gray it would make the bright colors pop - thanks for the chance to win.

Some bright pinks and greens would be my choice 🥰

That is really pretty, Mari! You chose a beautiful background fabric that sometimes becomes the main focus, depending on the way I look at it. This is a great version of Preeti's design! Wish I could say what colors I would make Synergy in - that's a tough question!

This is a patriotic looking design, so I would do it in red, white, and blue and gift it as a Quilt of Valor.

I think this would make a great fast quilt for my son. Since I’m about to live most of my fabric is stashed, so if I make it right away it would have to be red and blue, patriotic. If I wait I would use an aqua background with purple and blue batiks.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this beautiful new quilt pattern. This may not be your 'usual' but it's stunning. I would make the quilt in blues. Because... BLUE!

Love the idea of a print background and using coordinating colors for the blocks! I'm still trying to figure out where to take photos in all this brown and mud - yours look great!

Wouldn't it also be pretty with black & white pattern and a lime green background? Or maybe a yellow background? Fun-looking pattern and your version is sew pretty & spring-like.

Love the fuchsia background you used, Mari! I would be tempted to do the same and use greys and sands for the links.

Beautiful Quilt! I love the colors. I keep thinking about a yellow, green and purple block a friend of mine made. Seems like it would be nice with this pattern.

I think I’d like to see this quilt in a variety of pinks and grays. Looks like a fun one to put together.

Hi Mari! You did a fabulous job AND you're shocking the heck out of us. First the bright, bold, and fun dinosaurs for the SAHRR and now this cool version of Synergy. I love this wild side of you!! I have been giving this quite a bit of thought, and think I would make it again in black/white/gray. I think the gradient going between the light to dark and back again would look cool! Great job. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I would try this pattern in yellows and grays, probably with a solid gray background. Thanks!

I think I would use just various shades of blue with white. I like the design!! Thanks for sharing! Carol (aka tehachap)

I'll be the first to admit that my color choices tend to be safe and possibly a little bland, but your bold color choices really appeal to me. I think I would make a rainbow version.

my choice would be pale gray and all shades of aqua

We are currently visiting in NM and those are the kind of bright colors one sees around here. Wow.

Your quilt looks fabulous. I love the pink print background you've chosen.

Your quilt is beautiful! I think I would probably do red, white and blue but I'm also thinking about teal and peach for colors also. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of the pattern.

Your quilt is very striking! I think it would be fun to make this pattern in red, white, and blue.

Thanks for the inspiration! I'm thinking an earthy palette based on soft teals and golds.

Beautiful quilt Mari. Hmm, that background fabric looks familiar to me?? Love it with the blues - nice choice to use a print as the background. As for what colors I might make this with? I haven't a clue. If you could see all the tubs of fabric I have stacked up everywhere you would understand - I cannot even remember what is in them at the moment. ;-)

This pattern looks so interesting to me. I love teals and blues…so I’d try and use a variety of this I think.

Normally I go to scrap quilts but maybe black and white.

Great combination of colors!! I have some batiks I would mix up for this pattern.
