The stitching of the greens

(For anyone interested, the monthly scraps giveaway is at the end of this post!)

Wow, March is pretty much over!  How did that happen?  No idea, but since we're at the end of the month, it's time to show off some of my RSC progress for March.  This time around it was light and bright greens, which was certainly appreciated because I am so ready for some greenery in the form of spring flowers and actual leaves on the trees.  There are a few buds, but no leaves just yet.  Just look at the backgrounds of my pictures!

One of my RSC projects for this year is the patchwork scrap stars.  Here are this month's green ones:

As you can see, I made one that's the lighter green and one that's brighter, with a purple star and an aqua star.  Usually these are made with white stars, but I thought that would be too boring for me.  I like how these are turning out.  Here's the lot of them so far:

Aren't those festive?  Imagine how they're going to look once we add in some warmer colors!

Another one of my projects is making these scrappy 9-patches to use up some of my treasure trove of 2-inch squares:

These are so easy to make and go so fast.  I made 8 of them this month, which gives me 45 all together:

I think these look great together, and I really am glad that I made them all with white centers.  Once we get through the year, I'm going to make these into some donation quilts, probably using Bonnie Hunter's free pattern for dancing 9-patches.  I'm hoping to have enough for two quilts, so I'll need a bunch more.  Good thing there's a bunch of colors left!

So, those and my Clay's Choice stars are the blocks that I managed to make from what I pulled out of the scrap bin this month.  I also dug deep and cut up all the green pieces for my version of Bonnie Hunter's En Provence quilt:

Most of those are somewhat darker than the other scraps, more medium greens than lighter ones, but I did manage to pull most of them from the "light green" bin.  And now they'll be used in a nice, happy quilt, so it won't matter what we call them.

So now that the greens are done for this month, as I promised at the beginning of the year, I am giving away what remains in the light green bin at no charge at all to one lucky winner:

Since I used up a lot of the greens, and because there are some small pieces here, I'm also including some 2-1/2 inch strips that are kinda green, along with an unopened spool of white Craftsy thread and the usual handfuls of 2-inch and 1-1/2 inch squares.  I don't know anything about the thread, but they sent it to me with another thread order, as a sample, I guess.  I almost never use white thread, and I have plenty, so it will go to whoever takes these remaining scraps off my hands.

This giveaway is now closed!  Thanks all!

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post!  Really, that's all! Since this is a holiday weekend for many people, I will use the random number generator thingy sometime on Tuesday morning, April 3. Of course, if you want to leave a comment without entering the giveaway, you absolutely can.  Just let me know to leave you out! And if you are no-reply, please remember to leave a way to reach you.  If I can't reach you, you can't win!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. We will be celebrating Easter, and many of our friends will be having Passover Seders.  I certainly wish you a blessed time if you're celebrating either one, and if you're not, have a lovely weekend as well!

You did a great job on making use of all those green scraps, all of your RSC projects are going to be beautiful and colorful. You can leave me out of the drawing for the scraps, as pretty as they are, I'm not doing so hot at using what's already in my drawer.

I love your scrap blocks! The choice of colorful stars gives the blocks some extra fun! I'd love a chance at your scraps and to try that thread. I've read some good reviews about it, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thank you for the generous giveaway!

Yes, they are very festive and as soon as you add orange and hot pink, they will become even more festive. Let the celebration begin. Now, where is my drink? I need some scraps for you know that secret project we talked about that is due in May. Big Hugs.

Love those stars and the green! What a pretty piece this will make. My stash is always low on greens, so the scraps would be put to good use with me!

Love those scrappy stars!

I like your on-going projects. I'm working on finding my balance of WIPs vs UFOs! It doesn't help that I have two little girls to make clothes for, while starting to play in the world of quilting. I do love scraps though, and don't have much green! Outside it is still white (and snowing right now) so green is welcome!

I have been having a ball making things from a bag of 1980's scraps I found for $1.50! If you want to see what I made, it's my latest blog post. I'm getting down to some very small pieces now but you have inspired me to make some blocks with a white middle. I love those! I'm curious, if you never use white thread, what do you normally use to piece with?

Those scrappy patchwork stars are wonderful blocks, Mari! So pretty in the colors we've had so far. I like nine patches, too - especially made with the white center square!

A great collection of blocks. I love your idea to make the stars in different colours- so effective. The 9 patches with a white centre square are really good, they will make excellent donation quilts. And a Giveaway too! Thank you for your generosity.

I love the pretty stars in your scrappy blocks. No need to put me in tne give-away.

I love the delicate colors of the stars. Will you continue to use pastels in other stars or will you change the look as you go? Now I want to make nine-patches with white in the middle, too! Maybe that can be my RSC project next year. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; in other words, you won’t mind if I copy, will you?) No need to put me in the giveaway, but thanks anyway. My scrap bins overfloweth.

Those greens are so cheerful - just what we need as spring debates whether to saunter in, or just let winter linger a little longer!
Thanks for the link to Bonnie's Dancing Stars blocks - I have a stack of 2" squares just looking for a new home. Is your giveaway open to people outside of the USA? I live in Ontario, Canada....

Love how you used other colours for your stars. A whole quilt that way will be so colourful. Great nine patches too.

Super way to use up your "light" greens - I love this color range with the limes and acid greens. SUCH fun to work with. GOOD FOR YOU for doing the monthly leftover giveaway - empties the oldies and allows room to store fresh new scraps.

First, thank you so much for doing a giveaway! I love all the green colors but I especially love the colorful scrappy 9-patches. I’m a new quilter and am excited to try making some for one of my next projects!

Your star blocks are going to be amazing with the rainbow of backgrounds when the quilt goes all together, and I totally agree making them different colors is going to make the quilt even better. Thank you for the amazing opportunity to win some of your scraps!

Great RSC projects Mari. I have made a series of nine patch blocks this year too and did a couple with wonky stars similar to what you have done. I need to make more tho so there are 'enough' stars when I get to the end of the year. I am also really enjoying the Squared Away project. Lots of scrappy goodness-speaking of which, don't put my name in the drawing as I can hardly close the lid to my green bin!
