A bundle of fall flowers

Hello everyone!  How is your week going?  Many of you know my friend Bernie over at Needle and Foot, and her fabric shop.  This year she has been offering a series of fat quarter or half-yard bundles selected by bloggers.  For this month's bundle, she asked me! Little did she know that I am a September baby, so I really like many of the colors of fall and I certainly like colorful fabric!

Here is an artsy picture of the bundle I chose:

Oh, they look so pretty hanging there.  Here's a more sober picture of the bundle, along with fabric names:

Top, left to right: Lacey Star Cosmos by Sharon Holland, Cat in the Flowers, Bear Essentials 3 in violet purple.  Bottom row: Cottagely Posy, Twinkle in orange, and Woodblock Berry by Sharon Holland.

When I was choosing fabric for this bundle, I was thinking mainly of fall flowers.  Most people think of flowers as a spring thing, and I do love spring flowers, but fall has a beauty all its own.  Goldenrod, asters, chrysanthemums, some roses and lilies, astilbes, and Russian sage are just of few of the fall bloomers that add so much to the season.  There are no dainty springtime pinks or yellows here, but lots of deep saturated colors-- oranges, purples, deep reds, deep greens, and deep yellows.

I've started using the bundle to make some flower blocks for a fall flowers quilt, though I haven't made as much progress as I'd hoped:

Flower blocks are adapted from the Intricate Stitches project.

I'm seriously hoping this quilt will be finished sometime this fall, but there are some projects in line ahead of it, too.  But hope springs eternal!

If you're not into flowers, this bundle is pretty versatile as a base for other projects, since it combines well with other colors.  You could go really warm and put it with some more oranges and yellows:

Or go another direction with pinks and reds, and maybe a few purples:

Or try a little cooler with some blues and greens:

It even looks really good with last month's blogger bundle:

For my project, I chose to add a green and a couple of the fabrics from last month.  I might add another purple, too, to balance the one already in the bundle.

So that's my bundle and my (incomplete) project, and here is your chance to win one of these bundles for your very own.  Just leave me a comment on this post, and I will choose randomly (using a random number generator thingy) on Sunday night, September 16.  Just to make it interesting, tell me your favorite fall flower.  Mine is actually asters, the bright purple ones, of course!  If you are no-reply, remember to leave a way to contact you or else you can't win.

This giveaway is now closed! Thanks to all, and congratulations to Deb, who won the bundle.

You can find out some more about this bundle at Bernie's post right HERE.  Now is also your chance to hop on over to Bernie's shop  and get this bundle for 20% off until Friday.  To go directly to the bundle listing, click HERE. You might find something else you like, too, if you look around a bit.

Hope there are lots of flowers blooming for you this fall!

Hi Marie , firstly happy birthday month . I do like your blogger bundle , plenty to use their on their own or as you say combined with other fabrics . I have a penchant for orange and purple , so my favourite autumn flowers are asters (margeurites) for the purple and those orange hanging lantern shrubs, the name of which I've conveniently forgotten .

My favorite fall flower is the aster. I lead nature walks and they are popping up all through the town forest right now. Love the mix of colors in your bundle!

As another September baby, I concur with your choices. I especially appreciate how you showed the different combinations possible, a skill that does not come naturally to me.

Lovely combo. I really like Black-Eyed Susans, so bright and cheery.

My favorite is my autumn bloomin clematis. We lost ours last winter, but hope to replant this coming spring. I would love this bundle. I haven't figured out how to not be a no reply blogger so my best email address is sarahsgiftnship(at)gmail(dot)com

Your fabric selection is terrific. I love pots of mums because they are so showy and cheerful, one last hurrah. But I also love goldenrod and the first purple showing of sedum. California poppies also take my breath away. I think I love all signs of fall after a long hot summer. Janice.snell@gmail.com

I enjoyed seeing the color combinations you put together! Fall is my second favorite season (with spring being the favorite). I love gardening, and fall is the time I really enjoy the garden without having to work quite so hard. Thanks for the giveaway! Deb E / Oregon mdenders@msn.com

I LOVE Morning Glories. Yes they are winding down, but when I used to teach elementary school it was such an early blessing to see a beautiful bloom or two as I backed out of my driveway. I always plant them to wind up our mailbox. I actually made a wall hanging of the most prolific covering of the post and mailbox a few years back. It won a prize at our State Fair that year.

Love your bundle and especially your extended fabric combinations-great color sense! I really like the flower blocks and my favorite flowers are the bright yellow and rust colored chrysanthemums.

Oh, I love this grouping, and appreciate how you showed different ways to pair them with other fabrics. I've been waiting to see what you put together, and I'm not disappointed! Off to read Bernie's post!

Great bundle, and a great pairing with last months bundle. It has been way to hot in my house to sew, but, I believe the weather will now cool off. Sewing room is clean again, I'm ready to begin a fresh new project. Since I have last months bundle, I would love a chance to win this months. It would bring added life to any project I work on.

For favorite flower, my vote is for chrysanthemums. Preserving the feeling of fall using your bloggers bundle would be great fun. Thanks for your creativity in curating this bundle.

Mari, first of all, thank you for working with me. I love this collection! It was a great idea to show the possible groupings that could be done by adding the various colors - I really liked the picture with the added blues and greens - which I wouldn't have thought to do. Have a great day!

My favorite fall flowers are dahlias because there are so many forms and bright colors. My second is my Peegee tree hydrangea whose flowers are now turning pink due to the few cooler nights we've had. The bonus is they make great dried arrangements.

Happy birthday. Love all of these fabrics, and you have done such a great job bundling them into different sets. Each set is so beautiful, and your blocks are spectacular! I don't particularly have a favorite flower, but do like zinnias because they are so bright and colorful, bloom for a long time, and attract the bees, butterflies and birds.

Patty said...

Such a pretty bundle. I love how you combined it with other fabric bundles which really gives perspective on how adding different color combinations look. My favorite fall flower are zinnias as they start to dry out. They have a softer dustier look to them.

Marilyn said...

I don't know if it's considered a fall flower, but I just made a beautiful fall table runner with sunflowers on it.

Lisa England said...

Your bundle is beautiful, and I love that you showed how it would play well with other fabrics! I agree with Marilyn's comment above that if sunflowers are a fall flower, they are the best. I think a big group of mums can be nice too. I once planted them in my university colors of orange and maroon and it seemed perfect for fall.

Jayne said...

Dahlias are great flowers as they come in so many different colours

dorothy said...

LOVE your bundle, fall flower colors are so rich looking. I love the mums in those colors, they are hard to beat.

Beautiful bundle! I like Marigolds. Have some blooming right now in a planter on my porch.

GranChris said...

I like Marigolds but the mums take it in my book. There are so many beautiful colors.

I'm with you on the fall colors and when I think of a fall flower, i have a fondness for the old high school white mums used for homecoming week. Here in Texas they really get crazy decorated and there are girls who try to wear more than one at a time! They have decorated streamers from shoulder to below hem length with small bells and jingles to drive teachers crazy all day. They get really heavy with the decorated ribbons too.

Love Fall colors too! :) Love Mums best. Oh..and Happy Birthday this Month too! Thank you for chance to win your Give-a-way...ALL the combinations are so different, & Beautiful! :)

Bernie was right that you knocked it out of the park! btw I just adore your fat quarters in the trees photo!! i love flowers, period, but yes, there are so many wonderful Fall ones, one I just learned of yesterday belonging to a neighbour, (and he's going to give me a piece of yay!) clematis terniflora, aka sweet autumn clematis! The smell--! Anyhow, I love where you're going with your blogger bundle, will be watching to see it grow ;-)

Cecilia said...

Mums are my favorite. I love the Fall colors and your photos!

Laura said...

This is a wonderful bundle! I especially love the teal green floral, but they are all lovely. Most of the flowers I really love bloom in the spring, but one flower that I associate with fall is the sunflower and I love a cheerful bouquet of them on my table any time of the year!

Jollygirl said...

I suppose, if I have to choose one, it would be mums. I love your bundle.

Emily said...

Such a lovely bundle! I love all the colors of fall flowers. Chrysanthemums are probably my favorite; they make me think of the big golden chrysanthemums that a dear friend brought to put in front of my house the week of my wedding. She wanted to brighten the yard for visiting family and friends and they sure did!

JanineMarie said...

Mari, this is a delicious bundle for fall—definitely fall, but more vibrant than some fall palettes. Your interpretation in the intricate stitches block joyfully shouts “Mums!” I’m imagining the rest of the quilt from the part you have done, and it’s gorgeous. Your picture of the bundle dancing in the tree is delightful. I do enjoy mums, especially when there are a bunch of them together, but right now I’m crushing on Sedum. We have a whole row of them across the front of our house. They look like broccoli all summer and pink up about now. They are full of bees and butterflies.
