Five little blocks

Hi everyone!  Are you all enjoying the heat dome so far?  Yeah, me neither.  I'm seriously fantasizing about snowstorms right now.  We had a minor bit of panic yesterday when we thought the AC had gone out, but it turned out that the batteries in the thermostat had died.  Whew-- easy fix! It did get up to 87 in the house before we figured it out, though. I've never been so relieved to have dead batteries.

It's been a busy, hot week, but I managed to make a few of the Tiny Tuesday blocks:

Doesn't that Bear's Paw block look enormous?  It's the same 5 inches as the others.  I've said it before, but these blocks are so darned cute and most of them are fun to make.  I can't wait to see how the whole quilt turns out.

I didn't make very many blue blocks during the blue month, so I went ahead and made a really simple blue one, just to have a bit more blue in the quilt.  If you're interested in making one of these, I just used 2 inch squares from the 2-inch bin.  Super easy and quite cute!

I also made the fish in orange, because they must be goldfish, you know?  And the orange tabby cat got a gray basket.  My fabric is kind of limited now and that's the piece I could find, in the string jar, of all places.  The cat was really easy to make and I like how he turned out.

Finally, there is a pink polka dot pig!  Good thing this little lady is cute, because she was a bear to put together.  I had a hard time following and kept doing things backwards, plus I cut a lot of things the wrong size.  Must have been the heat. Miraculously, she turned out the right size and reasonably pig-shaped. And she's covered in pink polka dots-- what could be better?

I think that catches me up until next Tuesday.  Hope everyone stays nice and cool and safe during this awful heat.  Have lots of Popsicles and lemonade.  We are going to the movies because we have several house showings, then I might dive into some ice cream and wait for the heat to break.  Don't forget to check your thermostat batteries!

What sweet tiny blocks! I am glad that you are able to sew through the heat and the house showings!

I didn't even know there were batteries in the thermostat! I never really thought about it - now if the A/C goes out I hope I remember to check that!! So hot and you have house showings - find someplace cool to wait it out!

You got a good number of tiny blocks done. I haven't been doing much sewing because of the heat. We don't have air conditioning and the inside temp has been above 80 for over a week. My husband finally did wrestle the window air conditioner into the bedroom. Hope it cools down before the big move.

Such cute blocks, Mari! I love how you did your piggy's nose! It's hot here, too - going to a movie sounds like a great way to beat the heat.

Our thermostat batteries went out during the winter; I only noticed because it was getting so hot in the house and I realized the furnace wasn't shutting off. Funny how dependent we are on those things, with good reason, but it's always a relief when it's a quick fix. Of all the QALs I wish I would've join in on, those little scrappy blocks would be it. I have too many projects going on, otherwise I'd go play catch up! (Yes, the Bear's Paw looks huge - haha!)

It’s always delightful to see what you’ve been up to. It’s plenty hot here in the Salt Lake Valley, but it always is this time of year. At least we don’t have the humidity on top of the heat, so I really feel for those who are suffering through this summer. Your blocks are darling, and I particularly love your little piggy! (Is that the little piggy who went to market or the little piggy who stayed home?) Hehehe...

Kind of wish I had gotten on the bandwagon for the Tiny Tuesday blocks. They are so cute. I especially like your kitty in the basket.

Your blocks are adorable. Your pig block turned out better than mine and I also had a bit of a struggle with it. Still loving the cat blocks! It's hot & humid here in the Midwest with a promised break finally coming tomorrow evening.

Such cute little blocks...... weird how the bear's paw looks so much bigger? It must have been the angle when taking the picture or something?

Hope the heat wave breaks. Just miserable out there!!

You are doing great in spite of the heat. I understand that movie theaters get busy in the summer due to their having A/C. Hope it wasn't too crowded in there.

Cute blocks!

No need to check batteries here. We don't have a/c and have had heat index up to 130 degrees. Thankfully it's cooler today in the 80s! They always say the elderly are at risk during a heat wave and I always wonder what age I have to be to be considered elderly!!

I am so grateful the heat finally broke last night. We get a break for about a week, and then we’ll be back to sweltering. We actually sat outside this morning for bit.

Your blocks are marvelous.
