56 blocks, no waiting

Hello everyone, and happy Friday to you. Can you believe that there are only two-- yes, just two!-- Fridays left in 2019? Where did this year go? On top of that, someone told me that the full moon this past week was "the last full moon of the decade." Yikes! 2020 is barreling down on us, and I'm not done with my 2019 stuff yet.

I did finish up one thing, though-- I finished putting together my tiny Tuesday quilt top! Once I got some of the numbers figured out and started on the rows, I just couldn't stop. Here she is:

It is a very gray morning here, but it does make for decent pictures, though I do prefer the sunshine. As soon as I got this quilt top hung up, it started to rain. Of course. But look at those fun tiny blocks! They give enough sunshine on their own, don't they?

I used a striped layout inspired by a Tula Pink layout in her 100 Modern Blocks book and I think it turned out well. I just couldn't do the solids, and I ended up going with a white on white and a beige print.  I was going to use some colors for the stripes, but in the end I thought those would distract too much from the fun blocks.

Since the blocks each finish at 4-1/2 inches (or so, there was some easing and some tugging in there) this isn't a huge quilt. The top is about 45 by 55, which is pretty good for blocks that finish at 4-1/2 inches.  For anyone who doesn't know, the block patterns were all a part of the RSC sampler over at Angela's blog, soscrappy.  All the block patterns are still there, so you could still jump in and make your own if you want.

My New Year's quilty resolution is going to be to get all the tops I have quilted up.  I just sent off two tops to the longarmer, and the mail carrier just delivered one that I had sent out a while ago.  So I'm planning to send this one off right away and get it quilted up.  No more adding to the pile!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Now that the grades are done, I am full of the Christmas spirit and am planning to go shopping. Yes, in physical stores! It will be a new and different experience, and hopefully not too frustrating. There's always online as a backup, but it might be nice to talk to some real humans!

neat job on the quilt - love your big windows! I hate Xmas shopping in the actual physical stores - LOL - I'm not a shopper

That's a great designed top. I love the idea of the stripes. I wonder if I could work it out in the diagonal witheach of the rainbow colours. Mmmm got me thinking. Have fun shopping. I am heading off shopping now. We are headed for a week that will be a few days hitting the 40 44 deg Celsius mark. I don't want to be fighting crowds in that. Hope you get some more stitching done.

Love the quilt top, and good for you, having it quilted right away. I have a stack housed in my "Blue Dot Box" (a blue bin with white dots). I really need to get them done, but my long armer is moving out of state! Anyhoo, good for you on this cute top! Hope you enjoy your shopping!

You have a very pretty quilt! You did so well with the small blocks! Striking! I need to get off the dime and find a quilter to do some panto's on my quilts and get them off the rack. Of course I could clear some of them out since I have a long arm!!!!!! AND 2020 will be here in 16 days! What a year!

It is FABULOUS!!! I didn't do the tiny tuesday blocks but your quilt top makes me wish I had. Have fun shopping in the stores - some of ours are great (others not so much).

My tiny Tuesday blocks are sewn together, but need a border to make it bigger. Can't decide on what it should be, Good luck with the Christmas shopping. I'm not a shopper and hate going to stores at Christmas, well except fabric stores. Those I can handle. Enjoy your time off.

That is just great, Mari! I love how your setting turned out! The neat thing about it is that it looks quite complicated, but I bet it went together quickly. Enjoy your break from school!

I really like your sashing...the way you mixed the cream and white gets a great secondary design to the quilt! You did a great job on making those blocks and not letting them reach UFO status!!

It turned out great. That sashing is so unique but perfect. It allows all of the blocks to shine.

What an interesting setting option, Mari. Reminds me of Angela's RSC14 Sampler. Congrats on getting your TT top together and... Happy Quilting!!

Fantastic idea about the striped sashing/background. It really adds some dimension to the quilt. I love it. Of course my favorite block is the piggy. I need to save that block and use it somehow (someday) for Julia. :-)

You're right. The sunshine is in the blocks. What a fun quilt! I love sampler style quilts. I always think I am practicing for a truly exquisite one block quilt. But it never comes
I just keep doing samplers. Must be a hint there somewhere.

Oh, I always love your RSC quilts! And this version of the background, with the stripes--what a great way to set of those tiny bits of colorful fun. I am envious of your setting for photography--even during November. In fact, maybe the browns in the landscape make the quilt pop even more. Have fun shopping, and I hope you find everything you're looking for--and more!

Yup! This confirms my thought -- the Tula Stripe Finish really made the blocks stand out beautifully. After all, that's what the Tiny Tuesday blocks were supposed to do. Great job!!!
