Unpacking

Hey, guess what?  We moved!  We've had a few hiccups (getting my name wrong on every single closing document) and a few big surprises (not a single appliance worked, leaving us with 40 gallons of water on the floor at one point), but altogether we are really happy to be here!

I haven't even come close to finishing unpacking, but there are a few things to show you.  First, the view from the new place:

I love it!  There will be a lot of leaves to rake, but there are also a lot of really cool backgrounds for quilty pictures.  Here's the other side of the house:

Sadly, the inside is not as great right now!  This room will be my sewing room very soon:

I'm planning to paint it this weekend and then there is some furniture to move in.  I'm thinking of painting it a pale yellow.  Or maybe green.  And yesterday I went and got some big construction foam panels for a design wall, which has me really, really excited.

So where is the fabric now?  Well:

If you said "garage" you were correct!  It's not as bad as it looks and there is a lot already upstairs.  I even started opening some boxes:

Backings!

Seriously, I could weep.  Can't wait to get this on the shelves!  I also found some notions I haven't see in a long time, some specialty rulers, a bunch of batting, and a box of books.

Just so you don't think I'm slacking off, there has been some hand sewing happening:

More to come on this one!

Don't know if anyone was interested in this status report, but I feel good being back online.  Hope you're all feeling just as good, and that everyone has spelled your name correctly, and that all of your appliances work.  We're going tonight to buy some new ones, which I'm sure will not be as much fun as it sounds!

Glad the move is done. Now on to the fun part. I loved the organizing and putting things away in our house. It gives you perspective of what you really want to keep and what can be rehomed.

Waiting to see the sewing room pictures, in progress and completed.

Oh what a bummer.... we were disappointed to have a few holes in the walls and the grass dead. Nothing in comparison but still upsetting. In our first house we had no water. All the pipes were blocked so we spent the first weekend redoing all the plumbing. The oven/stove top was so filthy we bought a new one. Then told when it was being fitted that there was a gas leak with the old one. Lucky we didn't try to use it...

Have fun settling in. It will be worth it....

wow - to find that every appliance doesn't work - that just doesn't seem right, that should have been stated somewhere in the contract - so sorry - such an expense as I'm sure you found out when you went shopping for appliances

My sympathies -- we just moved, too, so I know how hard it is to be without our fabrics, machines, and sewing room! But, congratulations, too! I know you will just love your new place, and the move will be well worth it once you get everything repaired/replace/settled in! Glad you are able to get some hand hexies in the meantime. . . . and thanks for the update! I always enjoy your blog. (lynnstck@yahoo.com)

Moving is very hard work -- but the views you shared of the exterior are marvelous! Have fun designing and filling your sewing room (mine is a soft lavender color). And best wishes for the appliance shopping expedition.

Great pictures Mari!! I vote for green in the sewing room.
Enjoy making this house your home. It feels so good to settle in. Moving is stressful, to state it mildly. Good luck with the appliances - that sounds horrible!
Hexies are something I haven't tried - post your progress with these. Th butterflies are so sweet.

On the plus side, unpacking and reorganizing all of your fabrics and notions has got to be fun. Finding things you have forgotten about. It is sure to bring about some inspiration.

What a beautiful view. You'll enjoy that yard so much. Can't wait to see what you do with the blank canvas of your sewing room. So many possibilities!

Fun to see bits and pieces of your new house and the beautiful views! So sorry to hear about the appliances, though. Do you have to get new ones? Have fun getting your new sewing room set up, in between all of the other chores I'm sure you have to take care of!

And I thought my move was hard! That was darned near two years ago and my sewing room isn't up to par yet, but I had a few health set backs and no help what so ever from my daughter who moved here with me. (She has since moved again!)But I am moving along slowly but surely!
I absolutely LOVE your views! Put some chickens out here...they will help with the leaves! Or get a lawn vac, make it easy on yourself!

That is crazy silly about your name being misspelled on the docs. Glad you got moved in, hope to follow suit soon enough to. Even if it is just a few feet from the camper! LOL

Looks like you will have a nice bright sewing room! I bet you can't wait to set up your new space!

What a lovely view! On both sides! Sorry about the inconveniences. Having your name spelled wrong a jillion times can't be fun. The bright spot about the appliances is that anything you get will be more energy efficient than what was there. We are holding our breath with our fridge. It's as old as the house and so noisy everyone that comes over asks about the noise and we have to turn the TV way up when it's running. Opening your sewing boxes must be like Christmas! Your sewing room looks like such a lovely space--I especially like the flooring. Good luck shopping!

Congrats on the new house! You'll be up and running before you know it! My vote's for yellow, but I might be biased... my past two sewing rooms have been yellow. ;) It's just such a cheerful happy color! Lovely yard!
