Pink and green lace

Hi everyone, and welcome to summer. It may not officially be summer, but it's supposed to be 97* today, so I think that counts. I seriously hope no one gets too hot and passes out at baccalaureate tonight. I doubt that the AC in the chapel will keep up. Do you think that I can smuggle in some ice packs under my robe?

Well, thank goodness the sewing room is cooler, and I got to stitch a few things up this week. I'm catching up on the RSC projects, and I made the pink and green stars this week:

It has been so wet and rainy that I tried to take pictures earlier in the day, but they got washed out from the sun, and by the time I went back out it was very still and cloudy. This is why the colors of those leaves are so bright. But aren't they pretty with those star blocks?

I swear these were not dragging on the ground! It's an illusion.

These stitch up pretty fast, but I have discovered that I need to be really careful about seam allowances. I cut these with the Accuquilt and there is no wiggle room at all there. Believe me when I tell you that you need wiggle room for those triangles. I'm thinking seriously about making the next size up and trimming them down. Thoughts?

Above is a closer look at the green stars. I tried to go for darker green, but they weren't very twinkly, you know? I kind of prefer the black ones, if I'm honest, and I'm really glad that I'm using all yellows for the stars. It's a nice constant.

There's a lot of green in this post so far, what with all the grass and trees and such. How about a closer look at the pink stars? Here we go:

They are so festive! Pink and yellow might be my favorite colors, and I love them together. Okay, back to the greens:

For those of you who were wondering what I was doing with all those green triangles I was cutting earlier this week, these are the blocks I'm making. They're huge! They're 16 inches finished. I want to use up all those dark and medium greens I have, plus I thought I would throw in a few of those leftover dark blues just for variety. When I'm done with this quilt (which is astoundingly easy), I think I'll just turn all the rest of those scraps into squares and then. . .I don't know. You tell me.

So there we are! Just to end with a pretty pink something, I saw these out on my walk this week, very early in the morning:

I'm not sure what they are, but they are very pretty! They might be flowering pears? Don't know!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend! Stay inside and stitch, though I understand there are some people in the US who are really cold while we're really hot. Anyone remember when the weather wasn't truly weird?

Your stars are looking great! I'd definitely go up and trim down; I much prefer that to the stress of having to get it spot on. I sure hope you all can stay cool under those robes at the ceremony - 97!! Oof.

I, too, love pink and yellow together! Lovely stars.

I am all for wiggle room but I do not think making it bigger and cutting it down is going to work unless you piece and cut each section as you go...

It's so nice to have a coolersewing room when it's hot outside - I have that, too. Your stars are really great, Mari - I love that you've kept the star points yellow, and are changing up the other sections for the color of the month. Looks lush and green where you are. Beautiful flowers!

If those blooms are on a bush they might be Weigela. Mine are blooming right now and look like that. If it is on a tree, I don't know what they could be.

I’m loving all your twinkle-y stars. The yellow really does make them shine! I guess I don’t really wish for 97 degrees, but last night we had a freeze warning, tonight too! Glad I was a bit lazy getting my tomatoes planted! Memorial Day is usually my guide. Not much planted before that! Lovely pink blossoms! I have no idea what they might be!

Hi Mari! Great blocks for RSC. It's so funny - I didn't notice the stars until you mentioned the yellow for continuity. Before that, they just faded into the background for me and I focused only on the triangle points. It's a very cool block as are the green HSTs and how you laid them out. Nice job. I'm sorry it's so flippin' hot for graduation tonight. 97!! That's nuts. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Have fun at baccalaureate. End of the year ceremonies are an upside of academia. I enjoy having so many beginning and endings to mark time. There is nothing wrong with making bigger blocks and trimming them down. Its all about what makes your life less stressful. Lovely yellow and pink. It is a great combination.

I love how easy that big green HST block looks, but I cannot imagine what the quilt of many blocks will look like. Do you have a picture?

Hi, that bush is a weigela. :-)

Your star blocks are cool, the half square triangle blocks will grow quickly. The yellow stars will work well.
Our weather here is also very crazy. With some places having repeated flooding.

I think all your stars are twinkling. I’m curious about which dies you used. I’m guessing they are from a cube. Please let me (us) know. Hope graduation goes well. Sorry we couldn’t meet last night. As I thought I was barely moving!

Beautiful star blocks Mary. Please, sendo me some warm Weather (Lol), our weather is crazy, I am almost freezing here during a Fall, with winter days.

Sorry you had to contend with 97 degree heat, but at least it wasn't followed a day later by accumulating snow like Denver. Your star blocks are lovely and your world very green.

Gorgeous star blocks! Your surroundings are so lush and green. Just beautiful.

Your star blocks are so pretty and keeping the yellow a constant was pure genius. I often forget to do that and my quilt ends up a jumbly mess. We're warm here in the Midwest but not as hot as you!
